Architects of Wine Country Living

For nearly two decades, we have dedicated our practice exclusively to the architectural needs of Western Cape wine estates. This singular focus has cultivated deep expertise in the unique challenges and opportunities that vineyard properties present.

Our Heritage

Founded in 2006, mauve-aurora emerged from a passion for preserving the architectural legacy of the Cape Winelands while addressing the evolving needs of modern viticulture.

Our founding architects recognised that wine estates required specialists who understood both the historical significance of Cape Dutch architecture and the technical demands of contemporary wine production facilities.

Today, our portfolio spans heritage restorations in Constantia, contemporary tasting rooms in Franschhoek, and comprehensive estate developments throughout the Stellenbosch valley.

Our Guiding Principles

The values that inform every design decision we make

Heritage Respect

We approach historic structures with reverence, preserving authentic elements while sensitively integrating modern requirements.

Client Partnership

Your vision guides our process. We listen deeply to understand not just what you want to build, but why it matters to you.

Environmental Stewardship

Wine estates depend on healthy terroir. Our designs minimise environmental impact and often enhance the natural landscape.

Design Excellence

Every detail matters. From the sweep of a roofline to the placement of a window, we pursue perfection in proportion and form.

How We Work

Our process begins with understanding. Before we sketch a single line, we immerse ourselves in your estate's story.

We walk the vineyards at different times of day, observing how light plays across the landscape. We study historical records and interview family members about the property's evolution. We analyse soil reports and drainage patterns.

Only when we truly understand the place do we begin to envision what it could become. This thorough approach may take longer initially, but it results in designs that feel inevitable rather than imposed.
